Speaking Out and Breaking Stigmas
Our mission is to destigmatize mental health issues especially within African communities, provide educational resources, and create opportunities for open conversations in order to create a society where mental health is treated with the same importance as physical health.
Since June 2023, the community facilitates online discussions and webinars where individuals from diverse backgrounds learn from mental health professionals, medical students, and advocates. These platforms serve as spaces for sharing experiences, insights, and resources related to mental health.
The campaign originated from the creation of a short film aimed at sparking conversations about mental health. This film serves as a catalyst for broader awareness and engagement, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own perceptions and experiences related to mental health.
Mental Health Unmasked recognizes mental health as a fundamental human right. Through planning educational campaigns, policy advocacy, and grassroots initiatives, the community seeks to promote the rights of individuals to access mental health care, support, and resources without discrimination or stigma.
Mental health is not just a medical issue; it is a fundamental aspect of human well-being and dignity. Access to mental health care and support is essential for individuals to lead fulfilling and productive lives. Recognizing mental health as a human right entails ensuring equal access to mental health services, challenging discrimination and stigma, and promoting policies that prioritize mental health and well-being for all.
